Briley just loves to visit her big Sister! When we arrive at Karsyn's lawn, Briley gets so excited. She starts giggling and clapping. When I let her out, she walks right up to her sister, and gives her kisses. Briley knows exactily where she is, and who is there. She talks to Karsyn, and has even taught her that doggies (the deer that were just above Karsyn's stone) say woof woof. And in the picture above, Briley was sharing her booper (paci) with her sister!

It is so amazing, as a Mommy to see my little girls interact, even if it is the way it is. I would give anything for them both to be here in my arms, but since I can't have that.....this is the next best thing!

We found out about our baby just before Christmas of 2005. It was the greatest Christmas gift ever! Once we were 12 weeks gustation, we proceeded to tell our families and friends. Everyone was so excited. Darren and I had our first ultrasound on Feburary 26, 2006. We heard the heartbeat, and saw our baby grab it's toes.



On March 16, 2006, at 19 weeks along, we went in to learn the sex. My Mom and Darrens Mom were also there. I was in there alone at first for the measurements......and the tech let it slip. I was disappointed because Darren was not in there yet.....but OH MY! I don't think I had ever been sooooo excited in my whole life. I wanted a little girl sooooo bad. And I got one, a little girl of my very own!!!!! Once the very nice tech was all through measuring her, in which he said she was a LITTLE girl!!!, I went out to get my family. I acted as if I knew nothing!!!! Once he revealed that we were have a baby girl, they were all soooo overjoyed! At that point, maybe with in the next week or so, we knew her name!!! KARSYN TAYLOR. Karsyn was my first pick, and Taylor was Darren's first pick....that was the deal we had! If she had been a boy, it would have been the opposite!!!




We had such an easy pregnancy for the most part. Just before 6 months, I started to get pains in my lower left chest. I figured it was just part of pregnancy, and it was!!! At 27 weeks, on May 21, 2006, we had our 4-D scan done! Both of our whole family was there, it was so exciting! There they confirmed that she was  a little girl!!! But the tech told us she was BIG. WHAT???? The last tech told me she was little!!! I was a little worried at first, but then once reviewing the measurements, the tech must have just made a mistake.



The next week, I went in with my Mom for the chest pains I had been having, which were getting worse. They were part of pregnancy, but not until the last month or so. They sent me home. The Doc sai that I was a first time Mom, and worried. So we went home.


The next week, at 28 weeks and 5 days, we had our 7th month check up with our Doctor. He had said I was a little big, gained 15 lbs in 4 weeks, and measuring at 38 weeks ( my uterous) . So we went in for the scan. I was so scared. They wouldn't let Darren come in with me. I sat there for an hour as the tech would not say a word about anything that she saw.  Once she was done, she left me in there, alone for 30 minutes, and then came back in with a sealed envelope and instructed me to go straight to Labor and Delivery.

I walked out, scared to death, and Darren and I walked to L and D. Once we got there, the Doc on duty opened the envelope, and said "Fluid in the Abdomen". My legs collapsed, in Darrens arms, and I  bursted into tears. They assured me that they would take care of us, and hooked us up to monitors right away. 



We called our families, and they were all there as soon as possible. We waited all night, for the specialist would not be in until the morning. They diagnosed her with Ascites. Fluid in the body, but they didn't know why. Once the specialist arrived the next morning, bright and early, he scanned her. He confirmed her diagnosis, but added Hydrops Fetalis and gave us our options. He told us that our Karsyn had a 50/50 chance of surviving if we took her out immediately, if not she may not make it another week. But that her condition was 1 in 5 million.




We were in a blur. We were just playing with her foot that she kept pushing out of my belly!!! How could this be happening. We decided to have her delivered through a c-section. We were scheduled at 1:00pm the next day, Saturday, June 3, 2006 was going to be her birthday!!!! The day before her baby shower....we were not going to make it! 



Those 2 days seemed like a week. All of our family and friends were there, some couldn't make it, they were getting married and graduating! But they were there via telephone! Our scheduled surgery for 1 pm continued to get pushed back, until 6 pm. I was so upset, I hadn't eaten or had anything to drink. And then the time came. We were going to have our little girl. Karsyn Taylor Meeka was coming to our world.



The surgery was so easy and fast. Darren was in there with me holding my hand and my head. We saw her carried away to her isolate as they started to work on her. There was an entire team flown in for her. Her little tiny body had 6 of her own doctors!!!! They told us she was not doing so well, but better than they expected, and they were able to intibate her, which was great news!!!!! I layed in recovery waiting to go see her. Darren was able to go in and he brought me back pictures!!!! She was beautiful!!!!! We had such positive feelings in side us. Our baby was going to make it, we thought!!! We had so many people who love us, they were all praying for her!!!!



They finally let me in to see her 45 minutes later. We were a family. Darren and I and our little girl Karsyn Taylor. We touched her and talked to her. It was love at first site. They took me into my room, and ours families were there to meet us!!!!! Darren and my mom and Grandma were able to go and see Karsyn at 11:30. I could not go until 2:30. They got the most amazing pictures. Karsyn held Daddy's finger and squeezed so tight until her knuckles turned white!!!! She was absolutely perfect, and she was doing good!!!! Darren came back and went to sleep. Rest assured for the first time in 3 days. My mom stayed with me to go see her at 2:30 in the morning. Poor Mom, she had been up for 2 days too!! I was so tired, druged and completely out of it by that point. But I got up to go see my Karsyn. I almost told the nurse that I would wait....but I didn't, I wanted to see her soooo bad. My Mom and I went in. The only things I remember, were her hands were kind of purple, and when she heard my voice, she tried so hard to open her eyes. I started to fall asleep, and asked my Mom to take me back to my room and I would be back in a few hours.  The next thing I remember was getting into bed, when the nurse came in saying we need to go back. We were loosing her. My Mom and Darren ran as they pushed me back into the NICU. There were so many people working on her. Her heart rate was falling. We talked to her for a little while, and her HR went back up a little. The specialist pulled us over to the x-rays. Karsyn had no lungs. All of the fluid in her body caused her lungs to not develop, and there was NOTHING we could do. We went back over to her and just talked to her. 



It was her time. She was decreasing rapidly. Darren and I decided that we didn't want her to suffer, or work that hard any more. They unhooked her, wrapped her up in a blanket and handed her to us. We held our precious baby girl. I held her first, and then Darren, and My Mom.  Darren was holding her again, and just as he placed her back in my arms, our little angel grew her wings, somewhere between 4 am and 4:30 am. I just held her, as we all sat there and cried, I held our little angel. She was ours, all of ours. 


Some people dream of angels, we held one in our arms!





We miss you and love you every second of every day Princess. We can not wait until the day when we can hold you again!

From the moment we found out about you, we were in love. Every day that went by, we couldn’t wait to hold you, smell you and see you. You were so wonderful for mommy. You slept when I slept, and you moved when daddy talked to you. When we saw you on the monitor, we saw you dance and could watch you for hours. We knew from the ultra-sound, you looked just like your daddy. We grew more and more excited as the time grew near.

We were blessed to meet you one week ago. You are so incredibly beautiful. During your fight, you held your Daddy’s finger and squeezed until your knuckles turned white. When Mommy came in you tried to open your eyes. We knew you knew we were there. We know how hard you fought to be with us, but God needed you. You were created for a much more important reason.

While you live in heaven, with the angels, be a good little girl. Always smile, say please and thank you, and help out as much as you can. Please always hold an angels hand when you cross the streets. Never say never, and always ask before you take. Be creative and when you get a little older, be sure to go fishing. And most of all, remember that your Mommy and Daddy love you with all our heart.

Karsyn, we miss you so much. There isn’t a second that goes by that we’re not thinking of you. Thank you so much for holding on to give us 9 precious hours of your life. You gave us a gift, one that could never be replaced or forgotten, and for that we are blessed. For as long as we live, you will be Mommy’s angle and Daddy’s little girl.

The strength you showed us will get us through the days, until we are with you again. We will be with you again, we promise. We love you so much Karsyn.
